Andrew Buttery

General Manager

After completing Arts and Business Degrees, separated by a world tour of discovery through the Middle East, Europe and the USA, Andrew joined Shell Australia and undertook a number of different sales and marketing roles in Melbourne. He then joined the family business in 1997 principally to run the vineyard management business called The Terraces.

In 1998 he helped the family to launch the Gemtree brand. Since that time he has taken over the management of this business and has been responsible for sales in to the USA, New Zealand and within Australia. Whilst building the Gemtree brand Andrew became actively involved in the management of Mclaren Vale Grape Wine and Tourism Association, chairing it for 2 years up to November 2005. Andrew's daily routine revolves heavily around meetings!! Rarely a day goes by where he is not in discussions with staff, customers, suppliers, industry colleagues, politicians etc. etc. The family joke about booking some time to speak with him often wears a bit thin!!

Andrew spends about 5 weeks a year promoting the Gemtree brand overseas which eases the burden on winemaker, Mike Brown. A keen sportsman he is actively involved in weekly gym workouts with Mike, runs and swims and is a junior coach at the local Moana surf lifesaving club, assisting his 3 daughters to participate and learn about the surf. He maximizes his time on the beach in summer by doing a few volunteer surf patrols for the club. Above all, he is a passionate champion of Brand McLaren Vale and takes every opportunity he can to highlight the virtues of living and growing grapes in this great region.
