Background
The Gemtree Wetlands, in the heart of the Buttery's vineyard, is being developed in a long-term joint venture between Gemtree and Greening Australia SA.
Part proceeds of the sale of every bottle of Gemtree go directly back to Greening Australia to enable the ongoing development of the Gemtree Wetlands.
In 1998, Gemtree embarked on a monumental project to create a 10 hectare wetland area in the heart of the vineyard in McLaren Vale. Viticulturist, Melissa Brown's commitment to sound environmental practices and sustainable agriculture has seen 20,000 native trees and shrubs planted and 6 interlinking dams built to create the beginning of the Gemtree Wetlands.
Melissa approached Greening Australia initially for information and advice. She was delighted when they came back with a proposal for a long term joint venture that would benefit the environment, the community, and young people.
Greening Australia (South Australia) is a not-for-profit community organisation, dedicated to helping conserve and establish trees and associated vegetation. The organisation encourages South Australians to retain, regenerate and replant appropriate vegetation to help achieve a healthy environment in both urban and rural areas.
