Our Winemaking philosophy
Mike Brown's winemaking philosophy is straightforward - working in tandem with the viticulturist is paramount to the final quality of the fruit. Choices made in the vineyard from pruning through to harvesting will determine the ultimate characteristic of the wine. Mike believes in minimal intervention across all stages of the winemaking process which results in wines which are powerful, concentrated, and express the true characteristics of each variety and the region.
Our Wines
Moonstone Albariño - Melissa and Mike go feral - 100% biodynamic wine exactly as nature intended, natural fermentation, no additions and zero filtration.
Citrine Chardonnay - Truckloads of pure fruit flavours picked early to retain natural acid with oak in the background. Clean fresh and zesty!!
Tadpole Chardonnay - Pristine flavour ripe bunches picked early to retain purity, clever usage of oak, remarkably quaffable. Yum!
Tadpole Chardonnay Viognier - Pristine flavour ripe bunches picked early to retain purity, clever usage of oak, remarkably quaffable.The addition of viognier results in a richer front to mid palate with a hint of tropical fruit.
Tatty Road - Cabernet creates the platform and base, petit verdot gives aromatics structure and tannin, merlot the juiciness and cabernet franc is the funk… A Bordeaux blend with a difference!
Cadenzia - Best of southern Rhone, best of Spain and the best of Australia. Majority grenache, the world's most underrated variety! Exciting wine.
Uncut Shiraz - A viticultural wine at its best. Hands off winemaking, purity of fruit, unfined, unfiltered, the raw gem, the uncut version.
Bloodstone Shiraz Viogner - Concentration, power and amazing balance. Seductive wine.

White Lees Shiraz - At Gemtree we are continually pushing the boundaries of experimentation in viticulture and winemaking. In 2004 one such experiment took place and the result will astound those who indulge.
Obsidian Shiraz - Obsidian is hand crafted wine - we grow the grapes specifically, hand select the ultimate sections in the vineyard, vinify separately and then only the best barrels make the cut, ensuring only 1% of our total shiraz production makes the Obsidian grade. Winemaker Mike Brown's philosophy is simple - minimal intervention across all stages of the winemaking process.
