Technical Details:
- The Wine
Melissa and Mike go feral — 100% biodynamic wine exactly as nature intended, natural fermentation, no additions and zero filtration.
- Colour
- Pale with green hues, bright.
- Nose
- Freshly crushed grapes, nashi pears, orange blossom, white peaches, honeydew melon, lemon zest and cumquat.
- Palate
- A deliciously zesty and thirst quenching wine! Flavours of melons, pears and freshly crushed grapes fill the palate yet the wine remains taught due to the wonderful line of natural acidity, a trademark of Gemtree’s wines. 2011 Moonstone resembles a hybrid of Italian pinot gris - weight and texture – and Riesling, all racy acidity. We are tremendously proud of our fifth release of Moonstone and it reiterates our belief that this variety is very well suited to our climate and vineyard.

- Vintage Notes
In 2007 we began farming our Tatachilla Road vineyard biodynamically, and in the winery, winemaker Mike Brown has left this wine as nature intended it - 100% natural fermentation with 20% in old oak for increased mouthfeel and texture. No yeast or acid added and no filtration. The 2011 Moonstone is our first certified “in conversion” organic wine. Sulphur Dioxide was used but kept to 60ppm or 60mg/L total.
